Since its introduction in 1980 (38 years ago), the Audio-Technica AT95E has been regarded as a very special cartridge. More than 5 million owners can account for it greatness. Now it has been discontinued - a victim of the product life cycle in consumer electronics where a perfectly great product has to be revised, updated or replaced in order to remain relevant to the press and public. . On one side, this is beneficial to the industry and end-users since it forces constant research and dvelopement. On the other hand, it is wasteful and unproductice. This fosters making a change for the sake of making a change product thinking.

Its new owner anonymously donated the historic instrument to violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, on loan for the rest of her life.
