Mag-Lev ML1 Levitation turntable w/ OM10 - Black Gold

The Mag-lev ML1 is the world’s first levitating turntable. It is the first one designed with a levitating platter to play records in an elevated position. At the core of the turntable is the a patent pending drive, comprised of coils and magnets. It is a revolutionary technology in the audio universe. Because there are no moving parts inside the turntable and no motors spinning the platter, this minimises vibrations and creates a truly one-of-a-kind listening experience.

"Once the visuals, the pyrotechnics and pomp and circumstance, of this unique turntable are familiar, you’ll start discerning sonic performance and you’ll notice it’s one marked by a sense of smoothness and easy listening." — Christian Möller, AUDIO Editor

MAG-LEV AUDIO ML-1 LEVITATION TURNTABLE W/ OM10 - BLACK GOLD
- Experience the marvel, the milestone and sound quality!

The ML-1 is unlike other turntables in that it is designed with a levitating platter to play records in an elevated position. Because there are no moving parts inside the turntable and no motors spinning the platter, this minimizes vibrations and creates a truly one-of-a-kind listening experience. The ML1 combines 1970s and 1980s inspiration with modern, raw design to create a truly retro-futuristic look. it is quiet and astonishingly open and life-like. ML1 as delivered: Signal to noise ratio -73dB! Way better than your turntable? Why? It has no motor!

HOW IT WORKS
It uses magnetic coil drive and that is as quiet as the Milky Way's Black Hole.(Footnote 1.) Wow and flutter...less than .17%. Weight is 9.8kg all in! Four sensors, two magnetic and two optical to maintain precise speed and stability. The ML1 is delivered beautifully packaged and pristine, with all tools and cables to perform like a breakthrough and super cool turntable should sound. Delivered with a carbon fiber super-adjustable Project 9cc Tonearm with anti-skate, it adjusts in every tangent and is just the right mass for the ML1. It comes fitted with the fun and capable Ortofon OM10 MM Cartridge. Interconnects with ground wire and a competent power cord are included . The position of the RCA connectors are accessibly exposed for easy swapping, as is the ground wire. The arm is one of the few low mass, high compliance arms made today; as a result, MM or MI cartridges are best suited for this tonearm. This setup allows you to connect through phono in. Once you’re done, you just have to pick your favorite record, turn the turntable on, move the tone arm into position and lower the cueing lever. Then sit back, relax and enjoy. Conveniently, the arm rest has built-in sensors which automatically stop the platter and, once again, raise the support beams. Similarly, should a power loss or blackout occur, the system has enough reserve energy to perform an emergency stopping of the platter and support beam raising exercise.

TONEARM and CARTRIDGE
The ML1 turntable comes complete with the Pro-Ject Audio 9cc Carbon Tonearm with carbon-fibre armtube and OM 10 stylus from Ortofon. The arm is one of the few low mass, high compliance arms made today; as a result, MM or MI cartridges are best suited for this tonearm. All the models also come with an option to upgrade to the Ortofon 2M Black cartridge, an exceptional moving-magnet cartridge with a Shibata diamond. Its slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area with the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the highest-frequency groove information. The cartridge body used for the 2M Black is manufactured from Lexan DMX Piano Black, a revolutionary material that ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.

SEMI-AUTOMATIC
In order to help keep your precious vinyl records in pristine condition, the turntable lifts the tonearm at the end of the record. This function keeps records from being scratched and prolongs the life of the cartridge., the ML1 automatically raises the tonearm and, after a time lapse, turns itself off. The arm rest has built-in sensors which automatically stop the platter and, once again, raise the support beams. Similarly, should a power loss or blackout occur, the system has enough reserve energy to perform an emergency stopping of the platter and support beam raising exercise

CUEING MECHANISM
When it comes to record playing, the cueing mechanism plays a vital role in the listening experience. The gentle drop and the precision of the needle make the process feel technologically advanced.

HOW IT SOUNDS
With the OM10 Cartridge as delivered, I was impressed by the beauty and fullness of tone and openness of this innovative rig. It tracked everything at 1.6 grams and never faltered. All of the features worked, and worked smoothly. The depth of the sound field was excellent, and the imaging and framing was rock solid. Of course, the limitation was the OM10 but it is a great place to start you journey with record-playing.

PLATTER SUPPORT BEAMS (PILLARS)
Platter feet have been added, allowing the platter to rest when switched off. These beams automatically retract when you begin using the turntable, and when the tonearm is placed back in its original position, the pillars will automatically rise up so that the turntable can be safely switched off.

SAFETY MECHANISM
In case of power outages, the turntable has been designed with a UPS system, which stores enough power to safely lift the tonearm, stop the record, and return the platter beams to resting position. This way the turntable and record remain in perfect condition even when the unexpected happens.

PLATTER MAT
The ML1 comes with a thin felt mat that looks anemic and anachronistic when surrounded by all the technology. It sounds anachronistic too. Until we replaced it with a Achromat Platter Mat (retail: $115.00). Bass control, dynamics and clarity were remarkably better! Im terms of looks, it mates with the ML1 too.
